Set up your first B2B and B2C campaigns
Audience: An organization admin who can already sign in to Client Growth Hub.
Goal: Create one Businesses campaign and one Contacts campaign, then run a Meta ad and a Google search ad for each. A click opens the Ad leads page. A B2B submit becomes a business and its contact. A B2C submit becomes a person.
This guide does not include platform setup. Google Ads, the workspace, and the server permission to create ads are already in place. You do not connect Google Ads, and you do not change server flags.

What you need before the first click
- An organization admin login.
- The Facebook Page the ads should run from.
- The Meta ad account this organization pays for, with lead-generation terms already accepted on that account.
- A written description of the businesses you want (B2B), and a written description of the people you want (B2C). Include geography, who is a fit, and who is not.
1. Confirm the Ad leads page
Ad clicks must open the Ad leads page. The Connect page is a different address. A submit on Connect still sends a confirmation text. A submit on Ad leads does not start a call or a text.
- Open Settings → Connect campaign.
- Read Connect campaign URL. Leave that page as it is.
- Read Ad campaign URL. It must be an
httpsaddress. - If Ad campaign URL is empty, click Create ad campaign and wait until the address appears.
- If the address is present but you have been told it is stale, click Refresh ad campaign. That replaces only the Ad campaign URL.
The same Create ad campaign and Refresh ad campaign buttons are on the organization CRM workspace section. Either place is enough.
2. Connect the Meta ad account
Google is already connected for the platform. Meta is this organization's own account.
- Open Settings → Your social accounts.
- Click Connect Facebook and finish the Meta login.
- Select the Facebook Page. The Page id is saved from that choice.
- Choose the Meta ad account this organization pays for.
- Check Lead generation terms are accepted on this ad account only when that is true on the ad account.
- Click Connect ads permissions and finish the Facebook ads login.
- Click Save and recheck readiness.
The account is ready when the Page id, Business id, the scopes returned after the ads login, and the lead-generation terms are all present. If the page still lists a gap, fix that item and click Save and recheck readiness again.
Instagram and LinkedIn on this page are for approved social posts. They are not required to create the Meta or Google ads in this guide.
3. Set listen defaults for Contacts
Do this once, before the Contacts campaign, if you want Reddit listening to start from your own keywords.
- Open Settings → Social listening.
- Set the listen interval, the max post age, the default communities, and the default listen keywords.
- Save.
A Contacts campaign can override these. A blank campaign field uses these defaults.
4. Create the Businesses campaign
- Open Research.
- Set the toggle to Businesses.
- Click New campaign.
- Enter a campaign name, for example
GTA insurance brokerages. - Paste the full description: offer, buyer role, industry, geography, size, and exclusions. A short sentence is not enough. The box asks for several paragraphs.
- Click Analyze. Stay on the page until it finishes. Client Growth Hub opens that campaign’s Policy tab.
- Read the research specification. If a clarification question is waiting, answer it. If the interpretation is wrong, write the correction and click Save correction.
- Click Approve research specification.
- Click Launch research.
- If a brief review opens, read it. If it misstates the audience, go back and correct the specification. Confirm it only when it matches the description you pasted.
- If the launch asks Start the Meta ad with this run or Start the Google search ad with this run, leave both unchecked. You will create the ads in the next sections, after you can see them on Ads. Research still starts.
The campaign stays active after the run finishes. End campaign is a separate decision.
5. Create the Contacts campaign
- Open Research.
- Set the toggle to Contacts.
- Click New campaign.
- The dialog title still says organizations. The Contacts toggle is what makes this a people campaign. Paste who the people are: the need, the geography, the words they would use, and who to exclude. Give it a name, for example
GTA home insurance shoppers. - Click Analyze, then review and approve the specification the same way as the Businesses campaign.
- Click Launch research, and again leave both ad checkboxes unchecked.
A Contacts campaign created this way listens for public buying intent. Listening continues while the campaign is active. New matching posts become new person prospects.
To find businesses first and then the people tied to them, do not use Analyze. In the new-campaign dialog, click Use Guided Setup (legacy), start the interview, and choose Account consumers — find businesses, then affiliated people. Finish the interview, approve, and launch.
6. Create the Meta ads
Create one Meta ad for the Businesses campaign and one for the Contacts campaign. Only an organization admin can create or change ads.
- Open Ads.
- Click New ad.
- Set Channel to Meta.
- Enter a name that says which campaign it belongs to, for example
B2B GTA brokerages — Meta. - Enter a daily budget and a country code, such as
5andCA. - Enter a headline and a body.
- Add an image. Use one of these:
- Choose a JPEG, PNG, GIF, or WebP file.
- Click Generate image. Stay on the page until it finishes. Leaving the page loses the image.
- Paste a public
httpsimage URL.
- Enter a call to action, or leave the default.
- Under Research campaign, choose the Businesses campaign. Do not leave No research campaign. A click has to know which campaign receives the lead.
- Click Create ad.
- Read the status on the new row. A failed ad shows the reason under the status. Fix that reason and create it again.
- If the status is paused, the ad is not spending. Click Set live when you want the daily budget to start. If the status is already active, it can spend. Click Pause if you are not ready.
- Repeat these steps for the Contacts campaign. Pick that campaign in Research campaign.
Before Set live on an ad about insurance, mortgages, credit, or similar financial products, confirm whether a special ad category applies.
A public image is required. Without it, the ad does not start and the reason is ads_image_missing.
7. Create the Google search ads
Create one Google ad for each campaign. The click still opens the Ad leads page. Google versus Meta does not decide whether the lead is a business or a person. The research campaign does.
- Open Ads → New ad.
- Set Channel to Google.
- Name it so you can tell the campaigns apart, for example
B2B GTA brokerages — Google. - Enter the daily budget and country, such as
5andCA. - Enter a headline of 30 characters or fewer, and a description of 90 characters or fewer. Longer text is cut off.
- Enter keywords, separated by commas. Use the phrases a buyer would type. You can enter up to 20.
- Under Research campaign, choose the Businesses campaign.
- Click Create ad.
- Read the status. Paused means it is not spending until you click Set live. Active means it can spend. Pause stops it.
- Repeat for the Contacts campaign.
A Google ad needs a budget, headline, description, and keywords. It does not use an image.
8. Send one test lead before you spend
Do this once for the Businesses campaign and once for the Contacts campaign, while the ads are still paused.
-
Copy Ad campaign URL from Settings → Connect campaign.
-
Open the research campaign. The last part of the address bar is the campaign id.
-
Open a new tab to the Ad campaign URL, and add
?cgh_campaign=plus that id, then&cgh_channel=google. Usecgh_channel=metawhen you are testing the Meta path. Example shape:https://…/campaign/…?cgh_campaign=PASTE-THE-CAMPAIGN-ID&cgh_channel=google -
Submit the form. Required fields are first name, last name, email, phone, and marketing consent. Business name, address, and website are optional.
-
You should see a thank-you page. No call and no text are sent.
-
Open Prospects and set the toggle to match the campaign.
- Businesses: you should see a business, and a person whose company is that business. If you left the business name blank, the name comes from the website, then from the email domain. Free-mail domains such as gmail.com are skipped. If neither yields a name, the person’s name is used.
- Contacts: you should see a person. You also see a business only when the test included a business name, address, or website.
-
Submit the same test again. It must not create a second business or a second person.
The form does not write CRM. On Prospects, a Businesses lead is reviewed with Accept & find contacts, then Approve & import. A Contacts lead is reviewed and then approved and imported. Empty business fields may fill in after the thank-you page when a company name or website was present. A failed lookup leaves what you typed.
Use the Connect URL only if you want to confirm the confirmation text. That submit does not create the campaign prospect.
9. Turn spend on, then watch it
- On Ads, click Set live on each ad you are ready to run.
- Use Pause to stop one ad. Cancel and Finish cannot be set live again.
- If spend passes the daily budget, the ad pauses and the row shows that reason.
- On the campaign Runs tab, a later research launch can offer to start the ads again. Leave the boxes unchecked if the ads are already spending. An unchecked box does not pause an ad that is already live.
- New ad leads appear on Prospects for the campaign named in the click. Work them the same way as the test lead.
Before you email an imported contact, open Settings → Email compliance and save the mailing address. Outreach email stays blocked until that address is set. Ads do not need that step.
If a step stops
| What you see | What to do |
|---|---|
| Ad campaign URL is empty | Settings → Connect campaign → Create ad campaign. |
Create ad says the ad lead page is not ready, or engagement_url_missing | Refresh ad campaign, then create the ad again. The research campaign must be selected. |
Meta says the ad account is not ready, or ad_account_missing | Finish Settings → Your social accounts: Page, ad account, Connect ads permissions, lead-generation terms, then Save and recheck readiness. |
ads_image_missing | Add a file, a generated image, or a public https image, then create the ad again. |
| Google says the platform account is not connected | Stop. That connection is already supposed to exist. Ask the person who prepared the workspace. |
| The ad row shows another block reason | Read that sentence. Fix the missing field it names. Do not click Set live on a failed ad. |
| Every ad is blocked even though the Page, the Ad campaign URL, and the image are ready | The platform switch that allows spend is still off. That switch is not in your Settings. Ask the person who prepared the workspace. |
